U.S. joins India to launch Exercise Tiger TRIUMPH 2025

VISAKHAPATNAM, April 1, 2025 – Indian and U.S. armed forces held the opening ceremony to launch this year’s Exercise Tiger Triumph in Visakhapatnam, India, on April 1, 2025.

U.S. Navy units including the landing ship dock USS Comstock (LSD 45), with embarked U.S. Marines, and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) are scheduled to participate in the exercise.

“The operations and associated tactics and procedures that we will plan, execute and refine with our Indian partners will greatly expand our joint combined capacity to respond to any crisis,” said Rear Adm. Greg Newkirk, commander of the U.S. Navy’s Task Force 70 and the joint U.S. forces participating in the exercise. “Tiger TRIUMPH 25 represents the joint forces of two strategic partners enhancing our shared multi-domain awareness and ability to operate more effectively in those commonly understood domains. This is essential to prepare for any contingency that could emerge.”

This is the fourth time U.S. and Indian forces have come together for Tiger Triumph, a joint India-U.S. amphibious exercise. The exercise will involve approximately 3,000 personnel and at least four ships and seven aircraft from the two countries.

Tiger Triumph 25, which is scheduled to take place over a two-week period, continues the joint and combined forces’ ongoing efforts to improve interoperability for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.

Exercise events include subject matter expert exchanges, an amphibious beach landing, and establishment of an emergency medical treatment station at the site.  Tiger TRIUMPH 2025 will include the first-ever subject matter expert exchange with U.S. and Indian industry partners, government representatives, and operators focused on applying cutting-edge autonomous capabilities to address critical warfighter needs.  This exchange will advance the new U.S.-India Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance (ASIA) announced in February by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi and lays the groundwork toward greater integration of autonomous systems into future U.S.-India exercises.

Also new to Tiger TRIUMPH in 2025 is the introduction of a space element to the exercise, with U.S. Space Force representatives working with Indian counterparts to incorporate satellite technology to enhance force awareness in operational planning and execution.

Service members from U.S. and Indian armed forces will also take part in cultural and athletic events to build personal relationships and camaraderie.

The Comstock and the Ralph Johnson are underway conducting routine operations as part of U.S. 7th Fleet in support of a safe and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Additional U.S. forces participating in the exercise include Navy P-8A Poseidon and Air Force C-130J aircraft, as well as an Army platoon, medical platoon, Civil-Military Operations Center and Multi-Domain Task Force Combined Information Effects Fusion Cell.

U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

The United States Dedicates New Consulate Site in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, January 17, 2025 The U.S. and Indian governments today dedicated a new U.S. consulate site in Bengaluru.  Together, with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, U.S. Ambassador Eric Garcetti dedicated the site of the U.S. consulate, which is intended to become the fifth U.S. consulate in India.  The consulate will expand on the more than thirty-year presence of the U.S. government in Bengaluru by increasing our diplomatic engagement on economic and political issues, conducting public diplomacy and people-to-people engagements, and augmenting existing U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service capabilities.  Initially, consular services will continue to be performed at the U.S. Consulate in Chennai and other U.S. diplomatic posts in India.

Ambassador Garcetti and Minister Jaishankar, joined by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, announced their efforts to fulfill a commitment made by President Biden and Prime Minister Modi during the Prime Minister’s State Visit to Washington, DC, in June 2023.

The initiative to expand the U.S. presence in Bengaluru will broaden and deepen the long-standing ties between the United States and the state of Karnataka and build upon long-standing diplomatic engagement and strategic partnership in Karnataka.  The state is home to nearly 700 U.S. companies and tens of thousands of U.S. citizens who live, visit, study, and work in Karnataka – creating jobs in both the United States and India.  It is also the center of rapidly expanding collaboration in space, highlighted by the planned launches this year of the jointly developed NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite and of a U.S. mission to bring NASA-trained Indian astronauts to the International Space Station.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Ambassador Garcetti said, “Our relationship truly extends from the seabed to the stars, and nowhere is that truer than here in Bengaluru.  The innovation and entrepreneurship of this state – from semiconductors to space – is matched only by Silicon Valley in my home state of California.  I’m so proud to dedicate our new consulate site and announce the expansion of the collaboration between the American people and the citizens of Karnataka.”

Expressing optimism about the future of the bilateral relationship, Minister for External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar stated, “I do believe today it is within our grasp, within the realm of possibility that we realize more fully the potential of India -U.S. relationship… I see a great future for India and the United States, and I think, in that future, obviously Bengaluru will also have a salient part.”

While speaking at the event, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar shared his perspective saying, “This is not just an opening of the diplomatic mission, but a powerful symbol of the ties between the United States and India, particularly with Karnataka, a state that has been long at the heart of India’s growth and innovation.”

Bengaluru is the sister city of San Francisco, California, and Cleveland, Ohio, and a key link with U.S. defense, technology, and aerospace companies.  The U.S. government first established an office in Bengaluru in 1993 with the opening of its Commercial Service post in the city.
