Application Information

Most passport renewals for adults do not require an in-person appearance. Please see below for details of eligibility, application requirements and where to send your application. In person appointments for this service are not available.

Eligibility

You may renew your passport by mail if all the following applies:

Your passport is:

• Undamaged (other than normal wear and tear);
• Never reported as lost or stolen;
• Issued within the last 15 years;
• Issued with a 10-year validity; and
• Issued in your current name or you have changed your name and can submit legal documentation to prove this change.

Required Documents

• Form DS-82:  Complete the DS-82 passport application online.  You must print the form and sign it before sending it to us.
• U.S. Passport: Your most recent U.S. passport (original). This passport will be canceled and returned by mail along with the new passport. Valid visas in the old passport will not be canceled.
• Photograph:  Obtain one WHITE background color passport photo 2” x 2” (5 x 5 cm) taken within the past 6 months; no eyeglasses.  See more information on photo requirements.
• Passport Renewal Fees: You must pay the $130 passport renewal fee via the U.S. government’s secure payment site, Pay.gov. Please scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Continue to the Form.” After successfully paying the fee, you must print out the electronic payment confirmation you receive via email and include it in the package. Failure to include your payment confirmation page when submitting your application will cause delays. Complete fee information is available on our fee information page.
  • NOTE: Passport fees are NOT refundable except in very limited circumstances. Please write to your nearest embassy/consulate via the ACS Navigator to request a refund.
• Passport Book renewal takes 3-4 weeks to arrive. Please carefully read the courier instructions provided to ensure you receive your passport through courier.
• Evidence of Change of Name (if applicable):  e.g. Marriage certificate, divorce decree or court-ordered name change document.
