Emergency Information for American Citizens

Applicants for U.S. nonimmigrant visas should schedule their visa interview appointments at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality. Visa application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. For more information, visit travel.state.gov.
Applicants for H-1B (and their H-4 dependents), F, M, or J nonimmigrant visas are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to ‘public’ to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under U.S. law.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 10998 on Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States, which takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, the United States is suspending or limiting entry and visa issuance to nationals of 39 countries as well as individuals applying using travel documents issued or endorsed by the Palestinian Authority. Applicants who are subject to Presidential Proclamation 10998 may still submit visa applications and attend scheduled interviews, but they may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States. For additional details, visit travel.state.gov.
Effective immediately, the Department of State has paused all visa issuances to diversity immigrant visa applicants. For additional details, visit travel.state.gov here.
Please note that our customer service center has migrated to a new platform. Applicants may now direct any visa-related inquiries to support-india@usvisascheduling.com.
As of September 29, 2025 the Consular Exchange Rate will change for 1 dollar from 87 Indian rupees to 92 rupees. This change corresponds to recent shifts in the market exchange rate for Indian rupees to U.S. dollars.
Please note that B1/B2 interview waiver appointments have been consolidated in New Delhi beginning March 2024. Applicants are still able to submit application forms free of cost at any of the five Visa Application Centers in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, or New Delhi. Or, for a fee of 1200 rupees per application, applicants may drop their documents at any of the Document Dropoff Centers located in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Cochin, Jalandhar, or Pune.
Due to this consolidation, interview waiver appointments for visitor visas in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai are now extremely limited, however, appointments continue to be readily available in New Delhi for interview waiver eligible applicants applying for a visitor visa. Applicants who have submitted their passports for interview waiver processing may be required to appear in New Delhi, if the Embassy determines that they need to attend an in-person interview.
Applicants can request an expedited appointment through our online appointment system.
You must already have a confirmed interview appointment date in order to request an expedited appointment. If your expedited appointment request is approved, you will be notified with instructions via email. You should not cancel your existing appointment unless you receive a confirmation that your request for an expedited appointment has been approved. If you have not yet received an approval or denial, your request is still under consideration.
Expedited appointment slots are very limited. Please note that due to the high volume of requests, we cannot accommodate all travelers prior to their planned travel dates, even if the purpose of travel is time sensitive.
When booking your visa appointment, you must ensure that you, or your representative, submit a properly completed DS-160 form (online visa application).
If your passport with visa is lost or stolen, or the page of your passport with your U.S. nonimmigrant visa is missing, it is vitally important that you report the lost visa as soon as possible to protect you from identity theft or another person misusing your nonimmigrant visa.

A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to enter the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport.
Certain international travelers may be eligible to travel to the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program, which is administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The Visa section of this website is about U.S. visas for foreign citizens and nationals to travel to the United States.
Visit Travel.State.gov for additional information.
Note: U.S. citizens do not need a U.S. visa for travel to the United States. When planning travel abroad a U.S. citizen may need a visa issued by the embassy or consulate of the country they wish to visit.
For short-term visits to the United States (for tourism, business, education, and more), you can go directly to the online application (form DS-160). For immigrant visas, which are issued to foreign nationals who intend to live and work permanently in the United States, you can visit the U.S. citizenship and Immigration Services site for the relevant forms.
