
Laura Williams is the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad. She advances U.S. diplomatic efforts and fosters U.S.- India relations in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. Ms. Williams is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Throughout her career, she has catalyzed teams to advance diplomacy through technology. Prior to her assignment in India, she served as the Department of State’s Deputy Chief Information Officer for Enterprise Services. In this role she led the modernization of technology solutions that keep diplomacy securely connected as well as development of generative AI solutions for employees worldwide. She has also led policy teams working to advance a secure and resilient digital economy. Ms. Williams’ assignments overseas include service in our U.S. Embassies in Cyprus, Algeria, Italy, and Mexico. Her headquarters assignments include work in the Diplomatic Technology bureau, the Secretary’s Operations Center, the National Foreign Affairs Training Center, the Cyberspace and Digital Policy bureau, and the Center for Analytics. Before joining the Foreign Service, Laura worked as a contractor supporting the U.S. Navy Submarine Command, U.S. State Department Consular Affairs, and U.S. Agency for International Development. She holds the Chief Information Officer Certification from the National Defense University and a B.A. in International Relations from American University. During college she enjoyed a semester in Udaipur, Rajasthan studying rural development through bio-energy solutions. Outside of work, Laura relishes time with family and finding balance in nature; hiking with her husband and son, birding, and digging in her garden.
