Fees
  • Adult Applicants: Adult applicants must pay the appropriate passport renewal fee online via the U.S. government’s secure payment site, Pay.gov.
  • Minor Applicants: Minor applicants applying in-person are recommended to utilize the U.S. government’s secure payment site to make the payment. Alternatively, payments can be made in cash dollars, cash rupees (at the current exchange rate), demand draft (at the current exchange rate in rupees), or by credit card. Personal checks are not accepted.
  • Please note: Credit card transactions will be in U.S. Dollars. So please make sure that your international transactions on your card are not blocked.
Fee schedule
  • Consular exchange rate$1 = Rs. 92 (Effective September 29, 2025).  Avoid processing delays and submit the correct amount for the service(s) you are applying for based upon when your payment will be received by the Embassy or Consulates.

Appointments & Locations

Appointments are required for routine American Citizen Services.  Please check your local U.S. Embassy/Consulate below for availability times.

Please arrive fifteen minutes before your appointment to clear security.  Mobile phones, other electronic devices and large bags are not permitted inside the Embassy/Consulate. Review the complete list of restricted items below.

Security Information

All citizens will be screened by security personnel before entering the Embassy or Consulate compound. The following items are not permitted:

  • Battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, flash drives, memory sticks, Blue Tooth devices, laptop or tablet computers and portable music players
  • Large shoulder bags/purses, travel bags, backpacks, briefcases or suitcases. Only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted like unsealed plastic bags containing application-related papers, small cloth bags and zip folders
  • Food or drink items
  • Cosmetics (including, but not limited to, spray perfume/cologne and talcum/baby powder)
  • Sealed envelopes or packages
  • Flammable items such as Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
  • Sharp objects, including scissors, pocketknives, pen knives or nail files
  • Weapons, weapon-like objects, or explosive material of any kind
  • Long handled umbrellas (longer than 40 cm when closed)

This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.

There is no facility at the Embassy/Consulates to store prohibited items. You must arrange to store these items before entering.

Reasonable Accommodation

If you need reasonable accommodation for your appointment, we encourage you to request your accommodation immediately once you schedule your appointment. We make every effort to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities and medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations vary, depending on the situation and the person’s needs.
Examples of accommodations include, but are not limited to:

  • If you require a private appointment due to a medical condition or disability, we may schedule an alternative time for you to come in for your interview.
  • If you or your child has special needs that requires a private appointment in a quiet space without distractions, we may schedule an alternative time for you or your family to come in for your interview.
  • If you are unable to speak, you may be allowed to respond to questions in an agreed-upon nonverbal manner such as using pen and paper.
  • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter to translate during the interview if needed.
  • If you have low vision, we may provide you with communications in large print.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints because of a medical condition, including birth defects, physical deformities, skin conditions, you may qualify for a fingerprint waiver for certain fingers.

  • Interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as having a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.
